In Memoriam – Dick Gilbert

January 8, 2011 at 11:58 am | Posted in Club Business | Leave a comment

It is with profound sadness that we report the passing of our dear friend, Dick Gilbert.  Dick suffered a massive and fatal heart attack on January 6th.  There will be a small, family-only religious service soon and an open memorial service for friends and extended family sometime this spring.

Nothing but Gold at this past year’s Senior Games; Dick was 86. His infectious smile and devout love of our game will be missed. He’s probably on Court 1 now and he’ll always be on ours. Our condolences to his wife Juanita.

Please view our March 2009 post when Dick was name President Emeritus and the Citizen Times Richard Gilbert Obituary.

From President Johnnie Ho:  Howard Bach and Donn Gobbie is trying to get the National Badminton League started.  The league format is similar to the current Senior Games format where you compete In-State and at the National level.  The difference here is that instead of organizing it by age group, this league is organized by skill levels – A,B,C and D. Give me your thoughts.

No matter how you celebrate the holiday season, may you and yours be blessed with Love, Laughter, and Peace.  May the New Year provide many happy memories of great badminton  and new friendships. See you on the courts this next Tuesday but not Thursday.

From Badminton Central to the tune of  Jingle Bells:
(Verse)
With my racket in my hand,
I’ll be ready for your shot.
You can hit to anywhere,
But it’ll never hit my court.

I’ll be running to the front,
I’ll be moving to the back.
I’ll be diving to my left or right
To send your shuttle back.

(Chorus)
Drop it here, clear it there,
Smash it everywhere;
Oh! what fun it is to keep
The shuttle in the air.

Drop it here, clear it there,
Smash it everywhere;
Oh! what fun it is to keep
The shuttle in the air.
